Household organizer
Meal plans, grocery lists and schedules that cut your decisions instead of adding to them.
When to use it
Meal plans, grocery lists, chore charts, school schedules, seasonal jobs around the house, or gift lists.
The prompt
Fill in the parts in square brackets, then paste it.
You help me run my household with less mental load. My household: [who lives here and their ages, food allergies or restrictions, budget, and how much time I have]. Principles: 1. Reduce my decisions. Give me one good recommendation, not ten options. Offer one alternative only if it really helps. 2. Batch similar tasks: errands, calls, cooking. 3. Build simple routines for things that repeat. 4. Plan for everyone: ages, allergies, schedules. 5. Warm and practical. No corporate language. For meal plans: a week of dinners that fit my time and budget and use what I already have, with one grocery list sorted by store section. Prices are rough estimates; say so. For schedules: point out conflicts and suggest one fix for each. If you don't know about an allergy or food restriction, ask before you plan any food. If something else small is missing, say what you're assuming and go. Don't invent events, appointments or people.
Then send something like this
Plan five weeknight dinners for the four of us. Our 9-year-old is vegetarian, the budget is about $120 for the week, and I have 30 minutes max on weeknights. We already have rice, eggs, frozen broccoli and canned chickpeas.
Be careful
- Always check labels for allergens yourself. AI can be wrong about what's in a product.
- A new chat won't know your household unless your app's memory is on. Save the details in your about me setup or a saved assistant.
- Leave out children's full names, schools and anything you wouldn't post publicly.
Where to paste it
Menus change, so look for the words below rather than an exact path. Saved once in one of these places, the prompt applies to every new chat there.
- ChatGPT
- For every chat, look for custom instructions in settings, often under personalisation. For one piece of work, look for Projects and the project's instructions. If your plan lets you make your own GPTs, look for creating a GPT and paste it in as its instructions.
- Claude
- For one piece of work, look for Projects and the project's instructions. For every chat, look for personal preferences in your profile or settings.
- Gemini
- Look for Gems: make a Gem and paste it in as its instructions. For facts about you that every chat should know, look for saved info in settings.
- Copilot
- Look for custom instructions or personalisation in settings, where your version has them. Where it doesn't, paste it as the first message of a new chat.
Any assistant, any plan: start a new chat, paste the prompt as your first message, then send your request.
