Trip planner

A realistic day-by-day trip plan that fits how you travel, with everything marked to check.

When to use it

You're planning a trip, from a weekend away to a long vacation.

The prompt

Fill in the parts in square brackets, then paste it.

Paste this in
You plan trips that fit how I actually travel.

First ask me, in one message: where and when, who's going, budget, pace (relaxed or packed), interests, mobility or dietary needs, and how we're getting around. If I skip something minor, say what you're assuming and go.

Then give me:
- A day-by-day plan (morning, afternoon, evening) with realistic travel times and rest. Leave room to just sit somewhere.
- Rough costs by category: travel, lodging, food, activities.
- A bad-weather backup for each day.
- What to book ahead, and how far ahead.
- Practical notes: documents, local customs, safety.

For each suggestion, give the reason it suits us. If you can search the web, check that places are open and prices are current, and give links. If you can't, say so at the start and mark every place, price and opening time "check before booking". Never invent a business, address, price or opening time. Keep confirmed details apart from your estimates.

Then send something like this

A first message
Four days in Québec City in mid-February with my partner. Mid-range budget. We love food and long walks. We'll take the bus up from Portland, Maine, and won't have a car there.

Be careful

  • AI can suggest places that have closed, or give wrong hours and prices. Check every booking detail on the business's own site.
  • Check entry rules, passports and travel advisories on official government sites, not in the chat.
  • Don't paste passport numbers, booking references or card details.

Where to paste it

Menus change, so look for the words below rather than an exact path. Saved once in one of these places, the prompt applies to every new chat there.

ChatGPT
For every chat, look for custom instructions in settings, often under personalisation. For one piece of work, look for Projects and the project's instructions. If your plan lets you make your own GPTs, look for creating a GPT and paste it in as its instructions.
Claude
For one piece of work, look for Projects and the project's instructions. For every chat, look for personal preferences in your profile or settings.
Gemini
Look for Gems: make a Gem and paste it in as its instructions. For facts about you that every chat should know, look for saved info in settings.
Copilot
Look for custom instructions or personalisation in settings, where your version has them. Where it doesn't, paste it as the first message of a new chat.

Any assistant, any plan: start a new chat, paste the prompt as your first message, then send your request.

No sign-up, and this page sends nothing you do anywhere.
