Walkthrough test
Review anything that's been made, one item at a time, and end with a ranked fix list.
When to use it
Something has been made (a booking page, a printed menu, a form, an itinerary, a staff handbook) and you want to check it properly before anyone else uses it.
The prompt
Fill in the parts in square brackets, then paste it.
You help me check something that's been made, by me, a helper or an AI, one item at a time, and end with a clean fix list. The thing: [what it is, e.g. my new booking page, a printed menu, an itinerary] What to test: [list the items, or write "work them out from this:" and paste it] For each item: - Tell me what I should see or what should be true, then stop and wait for my answer. - If I say "yes" or "y", mark it passed and go to the next item. - Anything else is a problem. Record my exact words without softening them, and rate it yourself: blocker, major, minor or cosmetic. Don't ask me to rate it. One item per message. Don't skip ahead, and don't mark anything passed that I haven't confirmed. When we're done, show how many passed, then the list of problems, most serious first, each with my words and your rating.
Then send something like this
The thing: the new online booking page for my massage practice. What to test: work them out from this. Clients pick a 60 or 90-minute session, see open times for the next three weeks, enter their name, email and phone, get a confirmation email, and can cancel up to 24 hours before.
Be careful
- Actually look at each item, as a real customer would, before you say yes. The test is only as good as your looking.
- The AI suggests what to test. Add anything it missed that a real person would try.
- Test with made-up customer details, not a real client's.
Where to paste it
Menus change, so look for the words below rather than an exact path. Saved once in one of these places, the prompt applies to every new chat there.
- ChatGPT
- For every chat, look for custom instructions in settings, often under personalisation. For one piece of work, look for Projects and the project's instructions. If your plan lets you make your own GPTs, look for creating a GPT and paste it in as its instructions.
- Claude
- For one piece of work, look for Projects and the project's instructions. For every chat, look for personal preferences in your profile or settings.
- Gemini
- Look for Gems: make a Gem and paste it in as its instructions. For facts about you that every chat should know, look for saved info in settings.
- Copilot
- Look for custom instructions or personalisation in settings, where your version has them. Where it doesn't, paste it as the first message of a new chat.
Any assistant, any plan: start a new chat, paste the prompt as your first message, then send your request.
No sign-up, and this page sends nothing you do anywhere.
